I highly recommend Maigua as a Spanish teacher for those wishing to study this beautiful language. I have taken both a beginner group class and private tutoring sessions with Maigua. Both of these formats have rapidly improved my comprehension and speaking skills. Maigua challenges students by speaking primarily in Spanish while switching to English for clarification if necessary. She uses a textbook as guidance but creates many new exercises to reinforce vocabulary and grammar. She augments these lessons and exercises with videos and other learning materials. Maigua's focus on conversation skills is very helpful in getting me to converse clearly and to "think in Spanish" rather than translating to and from English. I find studying languages to be an awakening, inspiring experience when I have an enthusiastic and competent teacher like Maigua. Please seek her out if you are hoping to study Spanish in the Burlington area and anyplace with her online classes

As a high school student preparing to study abroad in Spain, my three years of Spanish classes in school have done nothing for me compared to what Maigualida has done for me - she has helped me tremendously with my Spanish speaking and I have noticed a HUGE improvement and a step forward in my Spanish skills! Despite studying with multiple native Spanish tutors throughout my 2 years living as an American ex-pat in Mexico city, Maigualida, in Burlington, Vt is by far the best tutor I’ve ever had. She teaches by the language immersion method, from the first minutes of the meeting ( even from the first e-mail exchange) which is proven to be the most effective way to learn a new language, especially for adult learners like myself.
Furthermore, she has the unique ability to truly identify your skill level/strength /weaknesses and caters for each class to suit your capabilities. She is very flexible in her time and ability to meet with you around YOUR schedule, at that time I was working 50hrs-week as a nurse and she was ALWAYS able to accommodate my busy schedule. Her prices are very reasonable for the level of quality and intimate learning experience you take from each class.
Lastly, she is a wonderful, beautiful, caring, and inspiring person who believes you can achieve anything if you put the work and set your mind to it.

I can't say enough good things about Maigualida! She was an excellent tutor for various reasons. She has worked with all levels of students and this is very apparent in her teaching style. I was preparing to begin my master's degree (with all my classes being taught in Spanish,) and she helped me brush up on the finer points I was lacking. She’s fun open and an interesting person. Her teaching method can be adapted to any learner. If I wasn’t understanding a concept she would change her explanation until I understood, or repeat the lesson as many times as necessary. The beginner Spanish class was excellent, very helpful to my learning Spanish.The class covered the very basics and quickly adapted to where the group was at. The lessons and group classes were fun and engaging. Maigualida has a great sense of humor and is warm and encourages students of all levels. We spent a lot of time laughing in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. The classes were fun and l looked forward to joining them. The supportive atmosphere also helped me to overcome my anxiety about speaking Spanish. The thing that was most helpful about this class was that it was organized in group discussions, asking and answering questions, and taking turns in responding. Putting sentences together is so immensely helpful in building confidence and ability, no translating but feeling and figuring out what to say in the Spanish language, even though I do not have the complete and right sentence to say, very helpful her method. l feel more comfortable in the language now and I don't freeze up when I speak, l feel that l don’t have to get everything right. This has been such a great class and so helpful to me and I would recommend Maigualida’s classes to anyone learning Spanish. I am really looking forward to continue.

I really enjoyed my classes with señora Maigualida. She allows everyone to go at their own pace while gently encouraging them to step out of their comfort to use the Spanish they know. She understands learning a foreign language can be anxiety provoking for some people and makes it fun creating a comfortable environment. I would recommend her to anyone interested in learning Spanish or brushing up on what they already know.

I enrolled in Maigualida’s class for beginners in order to learn some basic Spanish for an upcoming trip to Puerto Rico. I found the beginner class to be so engaging and impactful that I decided to continue with her in the intermediate level class. Maigualida’s approach to language instruction is intuitive and effective; she focuses on authentic communication rather than rote memorization. I came to Maigualida Rak not knowing a word in Spanish beyond “Si!” She quickly got me into simple conversation. I found her very willing to teach me in the way I learn best. Her flexibility is a great quality. She gears her lessons to your particular interests or requirements. We used a text book and improvised conversation based on the text. We also read Spanish poetry. Listening to Maigualida read short poems by Neruda helped me pick up Spanish inflection. Maigualida speaks English as fluently as her native Spanish, so she is able to explain grammar points clearly. Besides being an excellent teacher, Maigualida has a lively personality and a sense of humor, making every lesson a pleasure.

Maigualida is an excellent native Spanish language teacher with a degree in education. She follows plans and provides taking home activities, so that you know exactly what you need to do in between lessons. She also understands how to accommodate different learning styles, age, groups and abilities. I’ve been taking lessons with Maigualida for 1 month and I already doubled my knowledge of vocabulary and grammar. I feel confident introducing myself in Spanish and conversing about basic things like weather, food, holidays and more. She creates a friendly environment where it is okay to jump right in without worrying about making mistakes. On top of all, Maigualida’s classes are very affordable and offer a flexible schedule! For me, speaking a language other than English is empowering and it exercises my memory.
